About Rod Usher


Rod Usher, then a very recent graduate of geography, was sent to Sudan as the first ever member of Voluntary Service Overseas. He taught  English at Khor Taggat Secondary School, outside El Obeid  for two years from 1963. After a successful career in London’s education service, Rod taught English as a volunteer at the Sudanese Supplementary School in London for 15 years. He has maintained strong links with many of his formers students ( some now approaching 70 years old) and continues to love the Sudans and her Peoples. He has been back to Sudan twice in recent years.

With Djamela Magid, Amal Osman and Ali Ali, Rod Usher is enthusiastic about Creative Writing from the Sudans.
